Blogs and Wikis share many similarities because they are both users controlled websites. But of course they have many differences as well.
A blog for example is solely based on opinions. It is a way for people to share their thoughts. Like all opinions, they can also be based on facts but for the most part, people tend to share their point of view on certain facts. However, just because they are opinionated does not mean that they are not helpful. Blogs can be much more of a collaborative effort than Wikis. People who share similar ideas can get together and organize powerful groups and such. In some cases people can even come together to put a stop to crimes in their neighborhood.[1] This is a way of keeping under the radar without putting themselves in danger which is certainly effective and helpful.
Wikis are effective in different ways because for the most part, they are based on facts. Most wiki sites such as Wikipedia, the user submitted contributions are followed by verifiable sources. In the case of wikis, facts are verified by others and if something does not seem authentic, someone of expertise in that field can edit it, either change it completely, or revise it.[2]
Both Blogs and Wikis serve importance in today's digital world. The most fascinating thing about them both is that they show the significance and capabilities of user contributions.
