What is New Media?

Without a doubt, in this day of age technology is constantly changing at a rapid pace. Well, with all this new technology, a new type of media is born. So what is this new media? It is of course the internet. But, it is not just the internet itself. It is all the new technological devices that revolve around the internet.
Cell phones are at the top of this list. Sure cell phones have been out for a while now and so has the internet. However, in today's world it is near impossible to find a cell phone or any other portable device that is not built to work with the internet. This is because the internet has been so powerful that it has become a must for basically all electronic devices.

With all this portability of course comes a new type of media. People are now communicating in different ways and using things such as video webcams from their portable devices to communicate to the masses through websites such as Youtube [1]. With all this new technology powered by the internet, people are starting to explore new ways to use video in different ways other than ways it is used professionally.

This is why this type of new media is replacing the old media. It is difficult to watch a news channel on television today and not find them communicating with others via webcam. Some reporters even broadcast live using webcams. Also, more and more news channels use videos from the internet submitted by regular everyday people to broadcast the news.

The internet and portable devices are now creating a new type of media that is without a doubt quickly out-performing the traditional type of media.
